Agnes and Leo Bauerly placed a high value on education. They were raised in an era when completing high school was not a given. Agnes earned her high school diploma by living with a town family and working as their housekeeper so she could attend school. Leo had an entrepreneurial drive and launched the family’s trucking business. The couple worked together until Leo’s death, and their children later expanded the company into what became Bauerly Brothers. In memory of Agnes and Leo, their family and friends created this scholarship to help a deserving student pursue higher education.

William E. Barto (born 1911 in Pennsylvania) served in the U.S. Navy and later worked for Fruehauf Company. In retirement he took up painting, a craft he learned from his first wife, an accomplished watercolorist. In 1995 this scholarship was created in his memory to support students pursuing studies in the arts.
