New Heights Scholarship

Introduction
The Bussey Law Firm, P.C. awards a $1,000 scholarship each year to support a motivated student’s educational goals. The 2025 New Heights Scholarship is available to graduating high school seniors and current college students nationwide.
Key dates and deadlines
- Application deadline (essay + application form): April 29, 2025. Materials received after this date will not be reviewed.
- Finalists announced: May 13, 2025.
- Scholarship recipient announced: May 27, 2025.
Eligibility
Applicants must meet all of the following:
- Be a high school senior scheduled to graduate, or be currently enrolled at an accredited four-year college or university. Students attending a two-year college who plan to transfer to a four-year institution are also eligible.
- Have earned, or be on track to earn, a high school diploma this calendar year.
- Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
- Be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident. DACA recipients are welcome to apply.
- Complete every required field on the application. Incomplete entries will be disqualified. Submissions that fail to meet the essay word-count requirement will not be considered.
Essay requirement
- Topic: Describe a significant hardship you have faced and explain how that experience prepared you to succeed in college and beyond.
- Length: 500–1,000 words.
- Submit the essay with the completed application by April 29, 2025.
Scholarship details
- Award amount: $1,000, paid as a one-time, non-renewable scholarship to be used for post-secondary education expenses (examples: tuition, books, supplies, course materials, housing related to school).
- Late submissions are ineligible.
If you are named a finalist
If your application is selected as a finalist, we will contact you with instructions and may request the following documents:
- School transcript (official or unofficial). If chosen as a finalist or potential winner, you will receive directions for submitting an electronic official transcript. Do not send transcripts until specifically requested.
- Proof of current enrollment: an enrollment verification letter, a college acceptance letter, or course registration for the upcoming semester.
- Photo identification: a copy of one of the following — U.S. driver’s license, state ID card, DACA ID, or passport. These are the only acceptable forms of ID.
Additional terms
By applying, you agree that any scholarship funds awarded will be used solely for educational purposes as described above. If you are a finalist or win, the Bussey Law Firm, P.C. may publish your essay and photo on its website and use them for promotional purposes.
