Overview
This scholarship is open to U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents who hold a high school diploma, GED, or an equivalent credential. Recipients must begin studies at an accredited college, university, or vocational/trade school in the United States in Fall 2026 or Spring 2027.

Who is eligible
To qualify you must:
- Be a U.S. citizen or legal resident.
- Have completed high school, obtained a GED, or hold an equivalent credential.
- Plan to enroll at an accredited U.S. college, university, or trade school (schools must appear on an approved accreditation list or the CHEA directory).
How to enter
1. Complete the online entry form.
2. Take a brief, 8-question quiz.
3. Submit only once — duplicate entries will be disqualified.
Verification and disqualification
All winners’ eligibility information will be checked before awards are released. Any false, incomplete, or misleading information will result in disqualification.
Award details
- Five winners will each receive $1,000.
- Scholarship payments are sent directly to the winner’s institution for use toward tuition or books.
- The recipient’s school must be listed on an approved accrediting list or in the CHEA directory.
Selection process
Winners are selected at random by a computerized drawing after the entry period closes. The chances of winning depend on the total number of eligible entries received.
Notification and required documentation
- Winners will be notified by email and/or phone within 14 business days after the contest ends. You must respond within 10 days of notification.
- To verify eligibility you must provide proof of identity and status, such as a copy of a birth certificate, U.S. passport, or green card. If applicable, you may also be asked to provide documentation showing citizenship from your original country.
- You must submit two forms of identification.
- After verification, AFSA will provide any additional forms that must be completed by you and your school. All required paperwork must be completed within 60 days of the contest’s end or the scholarship will be forfeited.
- Winners’ names will be published on the website by October 2026.
