Eleanor Wegg Poetry Scholarship
Scholarship Sponsored by Eleanor Wegg Scholarship
This scholarship program will bestow three yearly prizes. Two of these will be valued at $500 each, while the third will be a $1000 award. If you are an undergraduate student in your junior or senior year at any University of Michigan campus and are majoring in English, you are eligible to apply for this scholarship. The deadline for applications is January 1, 2022. The poems submitted should not exceed 20 lines (excluding the title and stanza breaks), should be the original work of the applicant, and should not have been published professionally (meaning the author has not received substantial financial remuneration for it).
The entries will be evaluated based on their creativity, originality, use of imagery, artistic quality, and command of poetic expression. There are no specific requirements regarding the theme or style of the poem. We are looking for poets who exhibit a deep passion for the subjects they choose to write about. Please attach a cover letter introducing yourself and explaining the inspiration behind your poem. An unofficial transcript from the University should also be included in your application.
Ensure to provide all your contact details, including your University of Michigan email address.
The scholarship program is overseen by Michele Tucci, the granddaughter of Eleanor and a proud third-generation Wolverine, who graduated in the class of 1983.
