RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS
To be eligible for most Midland Area Community Foundation scholarships, applicants must reside in the county or counties served by the specific scholarship. Note: certain scholarships sponsored by companies or member organizations may waive this residency requirement.
RESIDENCY DEFINITIONS — WHO QUALIFIES
You will be treated as a Midland or Gladwin County resident for scholarship purposes if any of the following apply:
- You have been a legal resident of Midland or Gladwin County for at least one year.
- You are a current high school senior graduating from a high school located in Midland or Gladwin County.
- You are a college student who lived in Midland or Gladwin County and left the county only to attend college.
RESIDENCY DEFINITIONS — WHO IS NOT ELIGIBLE
You are not eligible under the Foundation’s residency rules if any of the following describe you:
- You moved into the area primarily to attend college here.
- You left Midland or Gladwin County for reasons other than attending college.
- You have never lived in Midland or Gladwin County.
SCHOLARSHIP AWARD LIMITS
If a student is selected for multiple scholarships, the Foundation will award the two scholarships with the highest individual values. If the combined value of those two awards is less than $2,000, the Foundation will continue to grant the next-highest nominated scholarships (in descending order of value) until either all remaining scholarships are awarded or the total of awards to that student reaches or exceeds $2,000.
NEED-BASED AWARDS AND SAI REQUIREMENT
To be considered for need-based scholarships, applicants must provide their Student Aid Index (SAI) as reported on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The SAI is the numerical indicator used by colleges and career schools to estimate a student’s eligibility for federal student aid and is calculated from the information submitted on the FAFSA.
Acceptable forms of SAI confirmation (choose one):
- The confirmation page displayed immediately after submitting the FAFSA (saved electronically), or
- The confirmation email received after FAFSA submission.
If you are applying for need-based scholarships, include one of these SAI confirmations with your application.
