Panhandle Drug-Free Youth Scholarship
Overview
- The Panhandle Substance Abuse Council created this scholarship fund in 2010. Each year the program awards a single $500 scholarship to a graduating high school senior who is an active member of a drug-free youth group in the Nebraska Panhandle. A winner and at least one alternate will be chosen.
Who is eligible
- Current high school seniors from the Nebraska Panhandle who are members of a drug-free youth group.
Application requirements
Applicants must provide an organized, legible application packet submitted to the Oregon Trail Community Foundation that includes:
- The completed application (submitted digitally)
- An essay describing the applicant’s drug-free lifestyle (entered on the digital application)
- Three letters of reference: one from a high school faculty member, one from a community member who is not a relative, and one from the sponsor of the drug-free program the student participates in
- Documentation demonstrating involvement in the community, school activities, and alcohol/other drug prevention efforts
Deadlines and notifications
- Complete application and all supporting documents must be received by April 1.
- Scholarship recipients will be announced in May.
Award disbursement and conditions
- The $500 scholarship is paid directly to the educational institution.
- If the awarded student does not enroll as a full-time student for the semester for which the scholarship is intended, the award will be revoked and granted to the alternate.
