Edison Scholars Program
Scholarship Sponsored by Edison International
Introduction and Eligibility
- The Edison Scholars program is open only to students who meet all of the following requirements:
- Be a current high school senior planning full-time undergraduate study at an accredited U.S. four-year college or university for the 2026–2027 academic year.
- Have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent).
- Reside within Southern California Edison’s (SCE) service territory.
- Provide an SCE Customer Number from a family SCE utility bill (see “SCE Customer Number” below for details).
- Intend to major in one of the eligible fields: computer and information systems, engineering, engineering technology, management information systems, mathematics, natural resources and conservation, or physical sciences.
- Demonstrate financial need.
- Dependents of Edison International or Southern California Edison employees or retirees are ineligible.
Awards
- Up to 30 scholarships will be awarded. Each award provides $12,500 per year (up to $50,000 over four years).
- Awards can be renewed for up to three additional years (for a total of four years) or until the recipient earns a bachelor’s degree, whichever happens first. Renewal depends on satisfactory academic progress, continued full-time enrollment in an eligible major at a four-year institution, and continuation of the program by the Edison International Foundation.
- Previously issued renewal awards will be honored under the original award terms and are not affected by subsequent program changes.
- All Edison Scholars are eligible to apply for a paid summer internship with SCE after completing their first year of college; placement requires meeting minimum eligibility and passing the standard hiring screening.
- Scholarships apply only to undergraduate study. Students attending a U.S. Military Academy will receive a single, non-renewable award.
Selection Criteria
Scholarship decisions are made competitively and based on:
- Academic achievement
- Demonstrated financial need
- Leadership and participation in school and community activities
- Work experience
- Responses to an impact statement and an essay describing challenging circumstances
- One online recommendation
Selections are made without consideration of race, ethnicity, gender, or other protected characteristics. Not every applicant becomes a finalist, and not every finalist will receive an award. Applicants agree to accept the selection decisions as final.
Required Application Materials (must be uploaded electronically)
- A full, official transcript showing the student’s name, school name, grades and credit hours for each course and term. Grade reports are not acceptable.
- If SAT or ACT scores are not printed on the high school transcript, upload official score reports separately.
- The first two pages of the family’s most recently filed IRS Form 1040 with all Social Security numbers redacted.
- One high-resolution (approximately 1–2 MB) head-and-shoulders photo of the applicant on a plain background (may be used in promotional materials if selected). Follow photo guidelines when preparing the image.
- Two essays, each up to 1,000 characters: one impact statement and one describing challenging circumstances.
- The SCE Customer Number from a parent, guardian, or close relative’s SCE bill — either the 12-digit Customer Account Number or the 10-digit Service Account Number. These numbers typically appear in the upper-left corner of the paper SCE bill or in the top-right corner of the My Account section online.
- One online recommendation submitted on your behalf (see deadlines below).
Recommendation and Recommender Guidelines
- One recommender must submit the online recommendation form for you. The recommender may be any non-related adult who knows you well.
- Do NOT provide a high school email address for your recommender. School email systems may block the multifactor authentication and automated emails used by our system. Use a personal or alternative email address that the recommender checks regularly.
- Recommender submissions must be completed by February 6, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. CST.
Finalist Requirements
- If you are named among the top 50 finalists, you will be required to submit a short video (two minutes or less). Instructions for video submission will be provided to finalists in February 2026.
Notifications and Timeline
- Applicants will receive notification of their application status in February 2026; award recipients will be notified in May 2026.
- Notifications are sent by email. When creating your application account, use a personal email address that you will retain access to (do not use a school or employer email).
- Add studentsupport@scholarshipamerica.org and the program email address to your email safe-sender list to ensure you receive all messages.
Payment
- Scholarship America administers payments for the Edison International Foundation. Scholarship funds are disbursed in August.
Completion Requirement
- Your application will be considered incomplete until all required documents and materials have been submitted electronically by the stated deadlines.
