The Society for Applied Anthropology annually hosts the Peter Kong-ming New Student Research Competition to recognize exceptional student studies in applied behavioral and social sciences. Who Can Apply?
- The competition is open to undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in the previous calendar year before the award ceremony.
- Individuals with a Doctorate degree cannot apply.
- Entries need to be single-authored, based on unique, unpublished field studies in the social sciences.
- Previous first and second-place winners cannot participate in future contests.
Entry Requirements
- Submitted manuscripts should not exceed 45 double-spaced pages, inclusive of footnotes, tables, and appendices, and should adhere to traditional style guidelines.
- The paper should document unique field research that leverages social sciences to address health care or human service issues.
- Submissions with multiple authors are not allowed.
- Unmodified undergraduate papers or graduate theses won't be accepted.

Awards
- First Place: $3,000, a custom-engraved Baccarat crystal trophy, $350 travel allowance, and a two-night stay at the SfAA Annual Meeting
- Second Place: $1,500, $350 towards travel expenses, and two nights of accommodation
- Third Place: $750, a $350 travel grant, and two nights of lodging
Additional Details
- The first-place winner is required to present their paper at the SfAA Annual Meeting and submit it to Human Organization for review and potential publication.
- Entries must be submitted by November 30.
