The William B. Howell Memorial Scholarship honors an individual who spent his entire professional career actively participating in and promoting the welding industry. Mr. Howell was a member of the American Welding Society for fifty years.

William B. Howell retired from Hobart Brothers Company as Executive Vice President after 44 years of service. He also served as a member of the Board of Directors of Hobart Brothers Company and the Hobart Institute of Welding Technology. Mr. Howell was a graduate of The Ohio State University and was active in a broad range of community-related activities.

William B. Howell would be very pleased to support the American Welding Society's education initiative through his scholarship. Mr. Howell believed in helping people who were willing to help themselves.

PURPOSE

The purpose for this scholarship is to provide financial assistance to those individuals interested in pursuing a career in welding.

ELIGIBILITY

The William B. Howell Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to a full-time undergraduate student pursuing a minimum four-year degree in a welding program at an accredited university. All applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements.

A) Applicant must be a minimum of eighteen years of age.

B) Applicant must have a minimum high school diploma.

C) Applicant must have a minimum 2.5 overall grade point average.

D) Student may be enrolled full or part time.

E) Proof of financial need is required to qualify.

F) Applicant must submit all required application information.

G) Applicant must be a citizen of the United States and plan to attend an academic institution located within the United States.

H) Priority will be given to those individuals residing or attending school in the states of Florida, Michigan and Ohio. (A resident is defined as having lived in the specific area for a minimum of one year.)

I) Applicants may reapply; however, persons who have received this award may reapply and may be granted the award for a maximum of four years.

The award will be presented to individuals nationwide. Applicant does not have to be a member of the American Welding Society.
